Sanitary Worker Returns Rs 1 Lakh Found In Dustbin To Shop Owner

Maddela Lakshmi, a sanitary worker in Jagitial district of Telangana, found Rs 1 lakh in cash in a dustbin and handed it over to the shop owner, as reported by The Times of India.

Maddela Lakshmi works at a local vegetable market as a sanitary worker in Metpally, Jagitial district of Telangana. She discovered a small envelope in the dustbin while cleaning the trash in the market. When she opened the envelope, to her surprise, she found Rs 1 lakh in cash in it; after which she went home and kept the cash with her.

Next morning as per schedule she came to the market with the money when she saw a man searching for something near the dustbin. When asked about what he was looking for, he told Lakshmi that his name was Javed and he owns a chicken shop in the market. He further said that he had lost his money which he kept in an envelope in his pocket while closing his shop yesterday. He also had another cover with some waste things and he mistakenly threw away the envelope with cash instead of the waste in the dustbin.

Lakshmi then handed over the envelope with the money to Javed who praised her honesty and presented her with Rs 5,000 as a reward.

While many of India’s richest have defaulted on their loans and fled the country, Maddela Lakshmi’s deed proves that honest people still exist. She sets an example for everyone with the integrity she showcased.
