You do not have to be of a certain age to become an entrepreneur and this 7-year-old from California just proved that. Ryan Hickman has not only recycled over 2,00,000 bottles and cans, he has also ended up earning $21000 ( Rs 14,31,895) in the process.
According to CNN, the passion for recycling in Ryan sparked at the tender age of 3½ years, when he, for the first time visited the rePlanet Recycling centre in California. Ever since then, his life’s mission has been to ensure that trash stays out of ocean and water bodies. He said, “It’s because bottles get to the ocean and then animals get sick and die.”
His efforts have also led him to become the Youth Ambassador of Pacific Marine Mammal Centre- an organisation that works towards rehabilitating and rescuing marine animals.
What started out as a hobby for Ryan has now resulted in a growing business. Four years later, Hickman is the CEO of his company, Ryan’s Recycling Company with over 50 customers.

But Ryan sure does have his plans chalked out for the future. Even though his parents are planning to save the $21,000 for his future college education, Ryan wishes to buy a garbage truck.
His entrepreneurial success surely does not stop with that. The website also sells branded t-shirts, the proceeds of which goes to the Pacific Marine Mammals Centre. Ryan has donated over $3,700 so far.
At school, Ryan’s favourite activity is to help the janitor, Mr Jose, separate trash. His father, Damion Hickman said, “My wife and I support him doing it and we told him that whenever he wants to stop he can.”
Everyday, the ocean and other water bodies get polluted because most of us choose to be ignorant. However, stories like that of Ryan’s only show that it’s never too early for recycling. The Logical Indian applauds not only his entrepreneurial skills but also his sense of concerns for the environment.
