
Inspiring Stories That Deserve To Be Heard, Honoured
The human spirit is defined by its ability, perseverance and courage. The courage of spirit that does not bow down before any disability. Its strength lies in reaching beyond one’s limitation and realising that no obstacle is too hard for a warrior to overcome.
The ones we perceive as “disabled” are heroes who often overcome several physical barriers and shine brightly after achieving an impossible feat. Unstoppable by these hurdles, it calls out to their courage and strength, thereby bringing out the best in them.
Dr Batra’s Positive Health Clinics celebrated their 25 years of existence of creating a positive impact on the society through their path-breaking endeavours in the field of medicine. To celebrate the landmark, for the last 10 years, Positive Health Awards are given to honour those individuals who have made way for medical miracles by defying irrecoverable medical situations. Hard things have come their way, but it did not to stop them and brought out the best in them. Over the last 10 years, many such individuals have been awarded owing their exceptional achievements and their thirst to achieve something which one can only dream of.
Let’s take a look at the individuals who have been recipients of the Positive Health Awards over the last few years:

- Deepa Malik was the Positive Health Hero of 2012. She won the silver medal in Rio Paralympics 2016.
- Positive Health hero of 2013 was awarded to Girish Gogia. He was awarded with the Karmaveer Chakra medallion by International Confederation of NGOs and the UN in 2015.
- Arunima Sinha was Positive Health Hero of 2014 and she was awarded Padma Shree in 2015.
- Ms Laxmi was awarded the Positive Health Hero of 2015 and she walked the ramp in London Fashion Week 2016.
In the 11th year, this award function has a new segment. The Special People’s Choice Award to honour the unsung heroes of our society whom we often term as the “disabled”. This award segment is a means to salute their infallible spirit and dedicated determination to overcome any hurdle that comes their way. They are those heroes whose stories have touched the jury, and their stories have touched the lives of millions. Their lives have redefined goals time and again and are an inspiration for many. Bandenawaz Nadaf, Sai Kaustuv Dasgupta and Virender Singh are the nominees who will be awarded in this people’s choice segment. Let’s take a look at their inspirational stories:
Bandenawaz Nadaf: He was born with no arms. Bandenawaz got his wings to fly through the form of art, while painting became the canvas of his life.

Sai Kaustuv Dasgupta: His body is 90% disabled with brittle-bone disease, but this has not stopped him from chasing his dreams and achieving them. He is a graphic designer, an author, a singer and a happiness coach as well.

Virender Singh: Virender Singh is a deaf and mute wrestler who hails from Haryana. He has won 7 international medals and one Arjuna award which makes his story a truly inspirational one.

The stories mentioned above are truly inspiring and heartwarming. Their indomitable spirit and their will to rise above their circumstances is what differentiate them and their struggle. Self-belief and resilience are what makes us look up to them and take their names with utmost reverence.
They are differently-abled in the true sense of the word. The ability of these inspiring individuals thrives to prove their capacity of changing adverse situations to their favour.
