Determined to do their best these brave women across the country have been breaking stereotypes by displaying what they are capable of doing. A nurse named Sunita Thakur had joined the ranks of such women.

From last seven years, Chhattisgarh's Sunita Thakur has been risking her life to treat her patients on the other side of Indravati River which is full of crocodiles. Thakur, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) rows across this river on her makeshift boat to take care of the health of newborns and pregnant women.

In these seven years, the river crocodiles have attacked her boat many times while she was crossing the river on her boat, but Sunita's resolution to attend to her patients never let her mind have second thoughts.

Speaking to Chhattisgarh: From 7 Yrs, This Nurse Has Been Braving River Full Of Crocodiles To Treat Patients ANI, Sunita said, "Even after we get to the other side, there are no roads or vehicles, he has to walk for 8-10 km to where the patients live." She has been providing health care to villagers in the interior areas of Dantewada for the last seven years. This area in Chhattisgarh is also known to be affected by the Naxalite movement because of which the accessibility to healthcare facilities in these remote areas is poor. Sunita says that for the sake of the villagers, not only do they cross the river but also the thick forest. On some occasions, while crossing the jungle, they even faces dangerous animals. Sometimes, due to such difficult situations, Sunita thought of giving up, but she always convinced herself that the villagers' life is more precious than her own and that for the sake of the villagers, she has to face the challenges.
