As the perfect victory to her battle, transgender K Prithika Yashini, along with 21 other transgenders received appointment orders as Sub-Inspectors of police, Tamil Nadu.

When she first applied in 2015, her application was rejected as she did not fit under the male or the female category. Not one to give up easily, Yashini approached the Madras High Court with a plea to be appointed to the post she deserves. The court, in November, directed the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board to appoint Yahsini as a sub-Inspector as she is entitled to the same, having cleared the written, physical and medical tests. The court also asked for transgenders to be included as a third category, and appreciated the cause Yashini highlighted.

Yahsini and 21 others received their appointment orders from the City Police Commissioner Smith Saran on 15 February, 2016. They will now undergo SI training in Chennai.

Thrilled at her victory, Yashini says her aim will be to help transgenders receive education and employment. She told PTI “I will take action against those involved in child abuse and sexual harassment.”

The Logical Indian congratulates K Prithika Yashini on her appointment and lauds her for her persistence and hard work. We wish her the best for the future and hope she is able to realise her dream to fight against crime.
