Since Tuesday, an 18-year-old Delhi girl Priyanka is being celebrated as a neighbourhood hero. The black belt champion in martial arts has been able to earn such a reputation by chasing down a burglar in east Delhi, holding on to him even after receiving injuries.

Priyanka, who had visited Pandav Nagar to meet her grandmother, was sitting outside the house. At that moment, she heard a neighbour crying out that robbers had struck the opposite building.

Seeing one of the robbers trying to escape, she chased him for 100-150 metres. She grabbed the robber’s neck from his back and did not let him go away even after he slashed her left hand with a blade. She nabbed the robber and handed him over to local residents, who then took him to the police. However, his accomplices managed to flee from the scene by that time.

According to Hindustan Times, Priyanka lives with her mother in Delhi’s Bhajanpura area, while her father is an engineer working in Guwahati.

Priyanka aspires to join armed forces or the police one day and she has been preparing herself since ninth standard when she joined self-defence course taught by Delhi Police. After five years she earned a black belt and is now preparing for the Central Reserve Police Force entrance exams. Her parents have always encouraged her to join the force.
