Brain Dead Gives Life
Organ transplants save lives. The act of donation helps the family of the donor in the grieving process. It does not take away the pain of their loss, but it helps them know that someone else is alive because of their loved one’s decision to donate their organs.
A beautiful gesture has come to light from Bhavnagar, Rajkot where organs of a brain dead man were donated to save lives of four people. Not only is he saving lives of the four people, but he is also giving vision to two others. The family members of brain dead patient Raju Dhapa have agreed to donate his vital organs including heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes. Raju met with an accident on November 13 when his bike slipped on the road near Mahuva. He was then rushed to the hospital where he was declared brain dead.
“After Raju Dhapa was declared brain dead, we did counselling of his kin and urged them to donate his organs to save lives of other people. Family readily agreed to donate, heart, two kidneys, liver and two eyes. His organs will save lives of four persons and give vision to two more.” says Dr Rajendra Kabariya, the neurosurgeon at Hospital, as reported by The Times of India. He further added that a special team from Mumbai arrived in Bhavnagar via a chartered plane and took the harvested organ (heart).
Bhavnagar police created a special green corridor for the ambulance from the hospital to the airport to transport the organs, as the time duration of organ harvesting and transplantation is vital for successful organ transplantation.
The Logical Indian thanks to the family for helping save the lives of those in need, and commends them for taking a difficult decision during a very trying time.
