With temperatures soaring once again, the heat has begun to take its toll. While many of us can comfortably afford cold water and fruits, the less fortunate have to go through the scorching sun without any respite. The Mar Gregorious Orthodox Church, in Janakpuri, New Delhi has stepped forward to offer some comfort to Delhi’s poorer population.

Under an initiative aptly named Share N Care, a public refrigerator has been installed just inside the church premises. The refrigerator will be kept stocked with bottled water, and fruits. Cold water and fruits will be offered free of cost to the poor, who cannot afford to buy the same, any time of the day. The security personnel on duty will be in charge of distributing the food and water to those in need. Donated by a church patron, the inauguration was conducted on April 24 by vicar Fr. Biju P Thomas. The plan is to maintain the public refrigerator all through the summer months. The church has shown great consideration and thoughtfulness coming up with such a generous step to help and aid the poorer section.

The Logical Indian lauds Mar Gregorious Church for their contribution, and wishes them success in their noble deed. This church stands to us all as a reminder of what any religion is essentially about – alleviating each other’s troubles, and helping those in need. It is also a learning for us all, that we need not wait or can afford to wait till the government reaches out to the needy. We have to take it as our own responsibility to do our bit in making lives of poor better and give them hope there are always someone who they could rely on in the time of need.
