17-Year-Old Transgender, One Of The Youngest In India To Declare Her Identity

At 17, Naina is one of India’s youngest transgender to come out openly, unabashed about her identity. As a student of Delhi’s Vasant Valley School, it must have taken a lot of courage for her to go up on the stage and boldly declare about her sexual identity to the entire school. Like any other teenager of her time, Naina likes to be a fashionista, wearing fancy dresses and taking frequent selfies with her phone. But her journey has not been easy. Born as a boy called Krishna, Naina always had more interest in women’s clothing over men’s and preferred hanging out with girls instead of boys. Every other person taunted her for her behavior.

She battled depression and suicidal tendencies with great bravery and with much-needed help from her mother Mishi, who stood as a pillar of support for her. Mishi respected what her child and gave Naina her unconditional love. Now that Naina has overcome depression, she is leading absolutely a normal life like any other teenager. She now has her own YouTube channel called nainaqueenb where she is quite vocal about the cause of the transgenders. Naina is quite an Internet diva now!

The Logical Indian appreciates the bravery of Naina and also requests our community members to spread the culture of acceptance of all irrespective of race, sex and orientation. There has been grave injustice meted out by our society towards some sections of people whose gender or orientation others don’t conform too. Let the story of Naina inspire all of us towards an equitable society.
