IIT Hyderabad Engineers Developed An Eco-Friendly Sanitary Napkin

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad-based team of engineers has developed an eco-friendly sanitary napkin which has a greater absorption capacity than those which commercially available.

The team, under the supervision of Professor Chandra Shekhar Sharma, has introduced the use of electrospun cellulose acetate nanofibers as a material for an absorbent core in sanitary napkin.
These sanitary napkins eliminate the use of harmful, non-biodegradable SAP from commercially available sanitary napkins without compromising the effectiveness.

The sanitary napkins are being looked as a better version because they come with better absorbency and comfort in comparison to the current sanitary napkins that have petroleum-based harmful chemicals which do not degrade instantly in the landfills and compromise on eco-friendly parameters.

In a statement issued by IIT Hyderabad, it was stated that since prolonged use of commercially available napkins leads to toxic syndromes or may be ovarian cancer. These nanofibers-based feminine hygiene products (Without SAP) provide a safe alternative to female hygiene. It was also highlighted that poor menstrual hygiene increases the vulnerability in reproductive tract infections.

Menstrual hygiene is an important issue for every woman.

The Logical Indian congratulates the team for their tremendous efforts and urges every reader to circulate the message in women’s interest.
