The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has postponed the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2025, which was to begin on August 13, citing technical and operational failures during recent exams; the new date is set for the first week of September 2025.
This decision, affecting 28 lakh candidates, follows Supreme Court directives and a major review of the exam’s computer-based testing infrastructure. Officials confirm a re-test for 55,000 candidates affected by test disruptions, and the One Time Registration (OTR) portal will reopen for corrections from August 14–31; admit cards and city intimation slips will be updated accordingly.
Exam Postponed: Technical and Legal Drivers
The official SSC notice, released on August 8, details that the original examination, scheduled from August 13 to 30, was postponed due to widespread technical glitches experienced during previous computer-based tests.
These failures included persistent server crashes, login issues, and questions not loading properly, observed notably during the Selection Post Phase 13 exam. Notably, the Supreme Court had instructed the SSC to implement robust reforms after students faced biometric failures and poor connectivity at test centres.
As part of these reforms, Aadhaar-based authentication is being introduced for candidates and staff to enhance exam security. Approximately 55,000 examinees, who experienced disruptions, will be allowed a re-test on August 29, with admit cards issued directly to them.
Impact on Aspirants and Administrative Responses
The delay directly affects around 28 lakh aspirants registered for 14,582 coveted Group B and C posts in central government departments. This decision has led to widespread anxiety, especially among those who have been preparing intensively.
In response to candidate protests and the Supreme Court’s intervention, the SSC has publicly committed to transparent reform and regular communication. The exam authority encourages all candidates to utilise this additional time for further preparation and to update their application details during the OTR window.
City intimation slips and revised admit cards are to be released 7–8 days before the rescheduled exam. The second tier (Tier 2) exam in December remains unaffected.
Background: Reforms and the Road Ahead
This development is rooted in persistent issues with SSC’s adoption of a new Computer-Based Test (CBT) vendor, which triggered a cascade of technical mishaps. Following extensive candidate grievances and demands for fairer procedures, the Supreme Court directed the Commission to overhaul its operational approach, aiming for increased transparency and integrity in large-scale recruitment.
As part of the solution, the OTR portal edit facility will remain open between August 14 and 31, allowing candidates a one-time correction opportunity. Applications for future exams are to resume September 2025, and no OTR changes will be permitted after the window closes.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
While the unexpected delay has led to concern and uncertainty for thousands of aspirants, The Logical Indian supports the SSC’s focus on fairness, technical reliability, and candidate welfare.
Prioritising exam integrity, though inconvenient in the short run, reflects empathy, transparency, and a long-term commitment to equal opportunity. It is crucial for both authorities and students to foster patience and constructive dialogue as these reforms take root.
