Speeding Thar Hits Two Sisters Returning From College in Chandigarh; One Dead, Driver on the Run

On October 15, 2025, in Chandigarh’s Sector 46 near Dev Samaj College for Women, a speeding black Mahindra Thar hit two sisters critically injuring the younger one and killing elder sister on the spot. The sisters were waiting for an auto rickshaw when the incident occurred.

The driver fled after the accident, and police are currently investigating, using CCTV footage to trace and apprehend the culprit. The vehicle registration was traced to Sector 21, but the driver no longer resides there, complicating efforts.

Tragic Accident and Victims’ Stories

Josef and Isha, residents of Burail, Chandigarh, were returning from college when a speeding vehicle lost control and crashed into them. Josef was declared dead on arrival at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, while Isha remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Their father spoke about his elder dsughter’s aspirations, highlighting her BA studies and beautician training. The family originally hails from Uttar Pradesh but has settled in Chandigarh for many years, adding a personal human angle to the tragedy.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 34 Police Station. Investigators are actively reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify the driver, who remains at large.

The police have seized the vehicle linked to the incident. This accident adds to rising concerns about reckless driving and hit-and-run cases in Chandigarh, prompting voices urging stricter enforcement of road safety laws to prevent future tragedies.
