A disturbing case unfolded in Satbari Kharak village, South Delhi, where a couple and their elder son were found murdered with their throats slit inside their home on Wednesday. Police have confirmed the accused is the younger son, Siddharth Singh, 22, who was later apprehended after attempting suicide at AIIMS Metro station.

Siddharth reportedly confessed to the killings and revealed longstanding mental health struggles, including obsessive-compulsive disorder and anger issues, as key factors. Officials are investigating the full circumstances while neighbours remain shocked by the violence within a seemingly quiet family.

Apprehension and Confession Amid Mental Health Challenges

Following the grisly discovery, police suspected Siddharth and launched a search. He was found on Thursday near AIIMS Metro station in a bid to end his own life by jumping in front of a train but was rescued by quick metro staff intervention. During interrogation, Siddharth admitted to stabbing his parents, Prem and Rajani Singh, along with his elder brother Ritik.

The accused disclosed his motive was rooted in his and his family’s suffering due to his deteriorating mental health condition, which included a 12-year battle with obsessive-compulsive disorder and anger management issues, confirmed through hospital records found at the scene. Authorities recovered medication prescribed for Siddharth and are reviewing his psychiatric history with medical professionals.

A senior police official remarked, “He said he wanted to free his family from the burden of his illness and believed he could not live with them any longer.” The case opened up questions on the support systems available to families dealing with such complex mental health challenges.

Community Reaction and Investigation Progress

Neighbours described the family as quiet but were aware that Siddharth had behavioural issues, including episodes of substance use and periods of estrangement from the family. Despite the visible signs, the extent of the internal conflicts, culminating in extreme violence, shocked the residents deeply.

Police continue to reconstruct the timeline and are analysing CCTV footage in and around the locality for further clues. No other suspects have been identified, but investigations are ongoing to ensure no accomplices or external influences played a role.

Community members have expressed grief and called for more awareness and resources for families grappling with mental health challenges in urban settings. This incident has sparked wider conversations about mental well-being and the urgent need for preventive interventions and open communication within families.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This terrible tragedy poignantly highlights how untreated or poorly managed mental health disorders can have catastrophic effects not just on individuals but entire families and communities. It raises the vital role of compassion, understanding, and early intervention to support those silently struggling.

Families burdened with mental illness require holistic care that includes medical treatment, psychological support, and a strong network of social empathy and dialogue.

At The Logical Indian, we uphold the values of kindness, peace, and coexistence, believing that fostering empathy and breaking the stigma around mental health are key to preventing such heartbreaking incidents.
