In a case of negligence, shown by RTO officials, a bike of an employee working in an insurance company has lost his two-wheeler which was in their custody. The Pulsar belonging to Ashok was seized by the officials as it was not registered and a case of tax evasion was booked against him. The vehicle was parked in the BMTC depot.

After paying the required dues, when Ashok asked his bike back, the officials at RTO expressed helplessness. They said the bike which was parked at BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) depot was stolen. The official who wanted to save themselves from the embarrassment shifted the responsibility by putting all the blame on BMTC depot.

The worse is yet to come. Since October Ashok is running from pillar to post to get his bike as assured by the officials who don’t want case to be registered against them. Despite paying all the dues he is yet to receive the bike. He bought the bike on a loan and has paid the EMI for three months. He didn’t even complete 1000 kms on it.

Jayanagar RTO Shobha said she wasn’t even sure of the parking terms they had with BMTC and added that the issue was brought to the notice of the joint commissioner. The agreement on space for parking was done at the level of commissioner and managing director of BMTC.

Even the depot shrugged off the responsibility saying the job of the depot is to provide space for parking and the RTO should provide security. Last year RTO generated revenue of Rs 40 crore through fines.

Well highhandedness of the officials at RTO and depot added to the woes of Ashok .
