Mahendra Dixit from Damoh, father of deceased 25-year-old Lucky Dixit distributed helmets to the youth at his condolence meeting on Tuesday, December 3.

Lucky succumbed to injuries after he met with an accident on November 20 because he was not wearing a helmet. Mahendra wanted to spread awareness about the importance of wearing a helmet and abiding traffic rules through this gesture.

“I do not want other parents to feel the pain of losing their young child. My son died because he was not wearing a helmet. I decided to distribute helmets to youngsters above 18-year-old and to spread a message that everyone should follow traffic rules for their own safety,” Mahendra Dixit told ANI.

Mahendra’s friends and relatives praised him for his cause, to not let others feel the same pain as he did, behind the step.

“The step is very thoughtful and appreciating. At a time when the family is unable to come out of the pain they are going through, they have decided to raise awareness among youth. They do not want other children to face a similar fate,” a relative of the family said.

The friends and the youth who gathered for the meeting to pay their condolences promised to wear helmets whenever they are on riding a bike.

Tarun Rathi, District Collector of Damoh also appreciated Mahendra’s gesture. “The government has been advising people to follow the traffic rules for their own safety. Several programmes are being held by the administration to spread awareness and reduce accidents,” he said.
