76-year-old Harjinder Singh has been an auto driver since 1964. From a tender age, Singh has always been keen to help those in need, and has done his bit without hesitation.
Once a traffic warden, Singh would often come across people who had met with road accidents, but even though he wanted to help, helping them personally would hardly ever be possible.
“I have seen people lying injured, hurt on the streets while people, instead of helping them, clicked photos. What is the point of being a human being if you are not of help to someone who needs you? It was only after I bought an auto that I realised that I was in a position to help these people,” Harjinder Singh tells The Logical Indian.
Singh’s auto is like any other auto, but if you look closely, you can see seven words written at the back in bold red: “Free ambulance for injured in road accident”.

Free Auto Ambulance
Singh started helping accident victims in 1978, and since then, there has been no looking back. “If I come across any accident victim, I immediately rush them to the nearest hospital,” Singh says.

Singh always has a medicine box in his auto to ensure nobody in need of medication has to wait till they reach the hospital.
“I also distribute free medicines to sugar patients in my locality at their doorstep. Most of them have my phone number and I have asked them to call me whenever they need it. If I am not available for a certain time, my son makes sure that no one is kept waiting,” Singh says.
“The love that all those who I help shower upon me is what keeps me going. I will not live forever but as long as I live, I will live for people who need me. If we humans are not there for each other, if we only live for ourselves, what is the point of living? Every time I help someone, they become my family. I urge everyone to be kind to each other, and love each other. That is how we can create a better world.”
Singh has been issued several certificates of commendations by Delhi Traffic Police. The Logical Indian salutes Harjinder Singh for his selfless service to society.
