On Thursday, RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari and her team transformed a Delhi-bound train into a birthing suite, assisting a woman from Samastipur, Bihar, in delivering a baby girl at Anand Vihar Railway Station. This act exemplifies the Railway Protection Force’s “Operation Matrishakti,” which saw them assist in 206 childbirths on trains in 2023 alone, highlighting their role as everyday changemakers.

Swift Response: RPF’s “Matrishakti” in Action

RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari, while on duty, received news of a woman experiencing labor pains on a train arriving at Anand Vihar. “I was on duty when I got the information. I called the ambulance. A lady from Bihar’s Samastipur was having labor pain. With the help of a police constable and other women in the coach, we helped in the delivery and later we sent them to hospital,” Kumari told ANI. This swift response is part of the RPF’s ongoing commitment to assisting women in need during train journeys.

Details of the Delivery and the Journey to Safety

Upon learning of the situation on the Sehersa-bound train, RPF Inspector Shailendra Kumar dispatched Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari and her team to the D9 coach. With the help of female passengers, they facilitated the delivery. An ambulance arrived within 15 minutes, transporting the mother and her newborn to GTB Hospital, ensuring their well-being.

Beyond the Headlines: RPF as Changemakers

This incident is not an isolated event, but rather a testament to the RPF’s dedication to serving and protecting passengers. In 2023, RPF women personnel assisted in 206 childbirths, showcasing their critical role in providing emergency assistance and support to vulnerable individuals during transit. “Operation Matrishakti” underscores the RPF’s commitment to going beyond traditional security roles to become active participants in ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.

Echoes of Compassion

Similar acts of kindness have been seen across India, such as the 2024 incident where a bus conductor and passengers helped a woman deliver her child on a TGSRTC bus. These instances collectively highlight the power of individuals and organizations to act as changemakers, providing essential support and embodying the spirit of community and compassion.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This story exemplifies the inherent kindness and resilience of the human spirit. The RPF’s commitment to going above and beyond their duty, embodied in “Operation Matrishakti,” shows the profound impact that empathetic action can have. It is a reminder that positive social change often begins with individuals choosing to act with compassion and responsibility.

How can we, as a society, better recognize, celebrate, and support these everyday acts of heroism that make our world a more humane place?
