Ratan Tata Partners With Google And Intel To Launch Internet Initiative For Women

A digitally India will bring the power in the hands of citizens by connecting them to the rest of the world, Ratan Tata said today.

Tata has joined hands with Google India and Intel for Internet Saathi that will empower women by giving them access to the internet. Under this women will be given a special cycle that will have connected devices from which women will be given access to internet.

Google’s executive said that women currently account for a tenth of the total rural internet users. The initiative will start from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jharkhand, after which it’ll be rolled out pan India. The aim is to cover 4500 villages and empower nearly five lakh women with this.

According to Mr. Tata “Internet will help educate India, will give access to livelihood to many women who do not have a formal livelihood, help reach out commerce  to far parts of India.”
