In a heart-warming gesture from Rajasthan, the principal of Government Mahatma Gandhi School in Kerap village of the Didwana-Kuchaman district surprised three Class 8 girls with a helicopter ride after they topped a recent school test held ahead of their board examinations. Principal Rajendra Dhaka personally spent nearly ₹1 lakh to fulfil the girls’ wish after they jokingly asked for a helicopter ride as a reward for their academic performance.
The students Khushi Meghwal, Ranjana Nayak and Jyoti were taken to Chomu near Jaipur on Friday, where they boarded a private helicopter and enjoyed a 30-minute aerial tour of the city. The initiative has drawn praise locally for celebrating academic excellence and encouraging girls in rural communities to pursue education with confidence.
A Principal Who Took Student Motivation To New Heights
The unique reward came after the three students secured the first, second and third ranks respectively in a class test conducted by the school as part of preparation for upcoming board examinations. To recognise their performance, Principal Dhaka asked the students how they would like to celebrate their achievement. The girls, who come from a remote village and had rarely travelled beyond their surroundings, jokingly replied that they wanted to take a helicopter ride.
While many might have brushed aside such a request as a playful remark, Dhaka decided to take it seriously. Understanding that such an experience might otherwise remain out of reach for children from modest rural backgrounds, he arranged a private helicopter and covered the entire cost from his own pocket, reportedly spending around ₹1 lakh.
On Friday, the students and their principal travelled to Chomu, located on the outskirts of Jaipur, where the helicopter was arranged for take-off. The three girls then boarded the aircraft and experienced a roughly 30-minute flight over Jaipur, offering them a panoramic view of the city’s landmarks and landscapes from the sky. For the young students, the ride was not just a reward but an unforgettable exposure to a world they had only imagined.
Dhaka later said that he wanted to celebrate the girls’ hard work in a way that would remain with them for years. According to him, rewarding academic achievement meaningfully can motivate students to aim higher and inspire others in the community to value education.

For Khushi Meghwal, Ranjana Nayak and Jyoti, the helicopter ride was far beyond anything they expected when they first joked about it. Jyoti shared that when the principal initially asked them about their wish, they believed he was simply being encouraging and did not expect the request to be fulfilled.
Their surprise grew when Dhaka later visited their homes to inform their families that the helicopter ride had actually been arranged. For parents and villagers alike, the news was difficult to believe at first. However, when the day finally arrived and the girls set out for Chomu to board the helicopter, the moment turned into a proud and emotional occasion for the entire community.
During the flight, the students enjoyed an aerial view of Jaipur the capital city of Rajasthan known for its historic architecture and bustling urban life. Seeing the city from above was a completely new experience for the girls, who had rarely travelled outside their village.
Dhaka explained that the initiative was meant to send a broader message beyond just rewarding three students. He emphasised that girls in rural areas often face multiple barriers when it comes to education, including limited resources, social expectations and lack of exposure. By celebrating their achievements publicly and creatively, he hoped to encourage other students particularly girls to pursue their studies with determination and confidence.
The gesture has since attracted appreciation from locals and social media users alike, with many praising the principal for going beyond traditional rewards to create a meaningful learning experience.
