In A First, A Pakistani Hindu Girl To Serve As Police Officer In Sindh

Pushpa Kohli, the first Hindu girl to be inducted into Sindh Police after passing the provincial competitive examinations is making headlines now. Kohli is currently posted as the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in the Sindh province.

Pakistani human rights activist – Kapil Dev was the first one to share the news online. He took to Twitter and wrote – “Pushpa Kolhi has become the first girl from #Hindu community who has qualified provincial competitive examination through Sindh Public Service Commission rights and become Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Singh Police. More power to her!”

Early this year in January, Suman Pawan Bodani, a Hindu from Pakistan became the first to be appointed as a judge to the civil and judicial magistrate. A native of Shahdadkot area, Bodani stood 54th in the merit list.

In an exclusive interview with an international news agency, Bodani said that she is from an underdeveloped rural area of Sindh where she has witnessed poor people struggling with several challenges and obstacles. She also mentioned that her father and siblings had helped her achieve her dreams to become a judge.

In Pakistan, Hindus are the largest minority. According to official estimates, Hindus constitute 75 lakh of the total 19.7 crore population in Pakistan. However, the Hindu community claims that more than 90 lakh Hindus reside in the country.

In the Sindh province of Pakistan, majority of Hindu continue to share traditions, culture, and language with their Muslim fellows.
