A tragic accident at Fun N Food Village amusement park in Kapashera, southwest Delhi, claimed the life of 24-year-old Priyanka Rawat on Thursday evening. Priyanka allegedly fell from a roller coaster ride due to an alleged seat belt malfunction while the ride was at its peak, approximately 25 feet above the ground.

She was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Police have registered a case under sections 289 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, citing negligence, and are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. Priyanka was visiting the park with her fiancé, Nikhil Singh, and they had planned to get married next February.

Safety Concerns at Amusement Parks

Priyanka, who worked as a sales manager, visited the park with Nikhil on Thursday. They boarded the roller coaster around 6:15 PM; moments later, Priyanka allegedly fell off, sustaining severe injuries, including ENT bleeding and lacerations on her legs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Choudhary stated that preliminary investigations suggest mechanical faults in safety belts, though staff negligence is also being probed. Nikhil alleged that staff failed to verify whether safety restraints were properly secured before starting the ride.

The park’s owner, Santokh Singh Chawla, said they are cooperating with police and expressed deep sympathies to the victim’s family. This incident has raised questions about the thoroughness of safety checks conducted before each ride.

Investigation and Regulatory Response

The incident highlights recurring concerns about safety standards in amusement parks across India. Priyanka’s brother accused park authorities of allegedly neglecting proper maintenance protocols. Following the tragedy, part of the amusement park was sealed for investigation.

Similar accidents in amusement parks have raised questions about regulatory oversight and adherence to safety guidelines, urging authorities to ensure stricter compliance. Police are inspecting the entire park to ensure all rides meet safety standards.

The Delhi government has also announced a probe into the incident, emphasizing the need for regular audits of amusement park equipment to prevent such tragedies.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need for stringent safety measures in public spaces like amusement parks. Alleged negligence in ensuring visitor safety not only results in loss of lives but also erodes public trust. The Logical Indian advocates for accountability from park management and regulatory bodies to prevent such tragedies.

It is crucial for both the public and private sectors to collaborate in implementing robust safety protocols and ensuring their strict enforcement.
