President Droupadi Murmu marked Samvidhan Diwas 2025 by releasing the translated versions of the Constitution of India in nine languages, including Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese.

The event took place at the historic Central Hall of the old Parliament building, now renamed Samvidhan Sadan. Addressing both Houses of Parliament, President Murmu said the Constitution is the guiding document to help discard colonial mindsets and embrace nationalistic thinking while protecting democratic rights.

The translations aim to make the Constitution accessible to more Indians and highlight the importance of inclusivity in the largest democracy in the world.

Celebrating Samvidhan Diwas

Samvidhan Diwas has been celebrated every year on 26 November since 2015 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949.

This year’s event was marked by the release of the Constitution in nine languages to ensure wider understanding across India’s diverse linguistic communities.

The translations were prepared by the Legislative Department of the Union Law Ministry with support from constitutional experts and language scholars, ensuring accuracy and respect for each language’s nuances.

Key Officials and Quotes

Prominent officials attended the event, including Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Vice President Radhakrishnan praised the Constitution-makers as visionary leaders whose efforts created the soul of the nation. Lok Sabha Speaker Birla paid tribute to Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Dr Rajendra Prasad, and other members of the Constituent Assembly. President Murmu also led the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution.

A commemorative booklet titled “Art and Calligraphy in the Indian Constitution” was released alongside the translations.

Samvidhan Diwas 2025

Samvidhan Diwas, also known as Constitution Day, is celebrated every year in India on 26 November to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.

This historic day acknowledges the efforts of the framers of the Constitution, including Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who played a pivotal role in drafting the document. It commemorates the official transition of India to a sovereign democratic republic and highlights the Constitution as the foundation of India’s legal, political, and social framework.

The day was officially declared Constitution Day by the Government of India in 2015 to promote constitutional values and increase awareness about the rights and duties of Indian citizens. Samvidhan Diwas also serves as a moment to reflect on the democratic ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity upheld by the Constitution.

The Logical Indian’s View

The translation of India’s Constitution into multiple regional languages embodies the true spirit of unity in diversity. It reinforces that democratic participation begins with understanding, and understanding begins with accessibility. Recognising all languages as equal vehicles of national expression affirms respect for India’s cultural pluralism.
