Mumbai Police launched an immediate probe on February 11, 2025, after receiving a threatening call concerning a potential terrorist attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft as he departed for a significant diplomatic trip to France and the United States. The call prompted heightened security measures and inter-agency coordination.

A suspect from Chembur has been detained and is currently being questioned regarding the credibility and motives behind the threat. The investigation is ongoing, with security agencies working to ascertain the full scope of the threat and any potential accomplices.

Mumbai Police Steps Up Security Measures

Upon receiving the alarming phone call, Mumbai Police wasted no time in notifying relevant security agencies, including national intelligence. The call suggested that terrorists were planning to target PM Modi’s aircraft as he departed on his official visit to France and the United States.

“Given the sensitivity of the information, an immediate investigation was launched, and all necessary protocols were activated to ensure the safety and security of the Prime Minister,” stated a senior Mumbai Police official. The detained individual, whose name has not been released, is currently being interrogated. Initial investigations suggest the possibility of a hoax call, but authorities are leaving no stone unturned.

Context of the Threat

The threat emerges at a critical juncture as PM Modi undertakes a high-profile diplomatic visit to France and the United States, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, trade agreements, and international cooperation on pressing global issues. The timing of the threat raises concerns about potential attempts to disrupt these engagements. Security agencies are reviewing existing security protocols for high-profile individuals and events to identify and address any vulnerabilities. Previous incidents of security breaches and threat alerts have prompted authorities to enhance security measures.
