India marked the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, widely revered as the Iron Man of India and the architect of national unity, with an array of nationwide celebrations on October 31, 2025. This milestone served as a reminder of Patel’s pivotal role in uniting over 560 princely states into independent India after 1947.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a special commemorative Rs 150 coin and postage stamp at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, to honour the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. These symbolic items celebrate Patel’s monumental role in India’s unity and serve as lasting mementos of his legacy.
The festivities ranged from grand ceremonies at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat to a series of community events across the country, embracing themes of unity, integrity, and patriotism. National Celebrations and Initiatives
The celebrations coincided with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), which was first inaugurated in 2014 and now marked its 12th edition in 2025. Key events included the flagging off of the “Unity March”, a nationwide padyatra, covering several districts and culminating in a 150 km march from Patel’s birthplace, Karamsad, to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia.
Alongside the march, activities such as cleanliness drives, tree plantation initiatives under the “Sardar Upvan” program, women’s welfare camps, yoga workshops, and “Vocal for Local” campaigns were organised to foster community participation and promote development at the grassroots level.
Competitions like quizzes, essay contests, and reel-making encouraged youth engagement and awareness about Patel’s ideas of unity and patriotism.
