For the last one year, Uttar Pradesh has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. In August last year, more than 71 children lost their lives in a tragic incident of medical mismanagement in Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur in August.
Recently, a girl, along with her family, had attempted suicide outside the Chief Minister’s Lucknow residence. The girl had attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on herself, citing inaction of the police even after filing a gang rape complaint against BJP MLA from Unnao, Kuldeep Singh Sengar and others.
Furthermore, a businessman, Aayush, was seen crying on video accusing the CM of pushing him away when he wanted to lodge a complaint against an MLA at Janta Darbar in Gorakhpur.
The above are instances when citizens were led down by the state government. In Yogi Adityanath’s UP, it is the citizens who suffer – they yell, they cry, they even threaten to take their own lives, but the CM is busy withdrawing seven-year-old rape and abduction case lodged against the former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand. He is busy clearing a bill that withdraws 22,000 cases against politicians in the state, including himself.
While the state government pays heed to insignificant matters, let’s not let the important ones die.
BRD Hospital incident
More than 70 deaths of children were reportedly caused due to non-payment of outstanding accumulated dues worth Rs 68 lakh that the hospital owed to Pushpa Sales, the sole supplier of liquid oxygen to the hospital.
Dr Kafeel Khan tried to secure oxygen to save the dying children. It is an acknowledged fact amongst Gorakhpur’s medical community that had this doctor not taken the initiative, the toll would have been far higher. Yet, where is Dr Kafeel Khan doctor right now?
He is in jail for the last seven months. “You think by getting cylinders from outside you have saved lives and are a hero, we will see about that,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when the doctor was hailed a hero for securing oxygen.
Unnao gang rape
The recent Unnao gang rape case shows utter negligence both by the government and the police.
It took a man’s death, an entire family’s harassment and the alleged rape victim’s shaming for the UP police to lodge an FIR against the rape accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Aayush Singhal land grab case
Aayush Singhal, a businessman from Lucknow, who was seen crying on a video said, “Amanmani Tripathi (MLA from Nautanwa) captured my lands. I went to the chief minister, gave him my papers and started briefing him, but he threw the papers away and said that no action would be taken.”
Singhal’s land was allegedly grabbed by the MLA but the Chief Minister did not pay any heed to his problem.

The Logical Indian take
What is the role of a Chief Minister? Why do people vote for a particular candidate? Both questions have the same answer – to represent citizen’s interests.
UP CM Adityanath needs to hold his administration responsible for what’s happening in the state. The state government cannot turn a blind eye toward the same people who voted for it. It is high time that CM Adityanath steps up to solve citizens’ pleas.
