It Was PM Modi

The celebration on October 2nd was preponed 14 days to September 17th this year, As India marked the birthday of its most ‘beloved’ Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi.

Amrutha Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, was quick to wish ‘father of the country’- Modi.

It’s not just the politicians and their wives who praised and congratulated Modi profusely, Media took turns to eulogise the prime minister and pay their own tribute.

Take, for instance, India Today threw a tough puzzle for its viewers on Modi’s birthday by showing his jumbled picture and letting them take a guess!

However, one day seemed less to wrap around the sycophancy of Modi. India Today then got busy with his post-birthday celebrations.

Did you ever seek your mother’s blessings on your birthday and made the headline?… No,? Our Prime Minister did.

While English news channels tried to maintain poise, Hindi news channels decided to call it a national festival!

Modi became a politician, a cultist and a magician who swirls his wand in thin air and makes the impossible possible in no time.

Why celebrate a birthday when you can celebrate birth-week? The BJP ministers did rounds of the hospitals and mopped public places to celebrate Prime Minister’s birth week.

Navratri and Diwali arrived aforetime in Gujarat. Diyas were lit, Garba was played. Media organizations decided not to miss a single moment of the celebrations.

Prime Minister Modi paid a visit to his native state, Gujarat, on his birthday and visited the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which by the way is causing water-logging in rural Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. But, why bat an eye for such a crisis when you can play around with the butterfly shots.

Media industry seem to not get enough of the Prime Minister. From circulating Amul doodle to pausing prime time debates, news channels excitement knew no bounds when it came to PM’s birthday.

The interesting take away for me from was the prime minister releasing the butterflies out of a laundry bag in a butterfly garden in Kevadiya, Gujarat. While people looked in awe, I wondered – why trap the butterflies in the first place?

Anyway, I am just a journalist, shouldn’t be asking questions.
