On November 26th, the Taxi drivers and Auto Rickshaw drivers in Ernakulam are on a mass protest against the online taxi services like UBER,OLA asking the government to ban them in Kerala and protect their rights and life.
Right after UBER, OLA came to kochi, they were welcomed with both hands by the commons as they were treating the customers with a gentle behavior and decent fare. But soon the taxi and auto drivers started physically attacking them and did all that to stop them. And now, the next step-A Protest !!!
Soon this protest will turn into a hartal or much more. But we wish to ask the government that, “Shouldn’t a common man have a choice? Or if I personally wish to start such a service offering a low fare to the commons, is that something illegal in this democratic Kerala?”
The people here have tolerated these taxi and auto drivers to the extreme as they charge the fare on their wish, doesnt put the fare meters even after requests, or sometimes doesn’t even run as they want a customer with a long distance.
Every metro city has these services running parallel with the state auto and taxi services. What is so special about Kerala? Why can’t a common man in Kerala have a choice?
If at all the government plans to put up restrictions on these services, then adequate measure should be taken to control the fare and behavior of existing taxi and auto drivers.
Its not that only these have rights, we commons do have a voice and right.
Raise voice !!!
