Odisha Beach Horror During Raja Festival: 20-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped in Abandoned House, 10 Arrested

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in front of her male friend at Gopalpur sea beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district during the Raja festival. According to the survivor’s complaint, around 10 men arrived on motorcycles, allegedly tied up her friend, and assaulted her in an abandoned house nearby.

Police have detained up to 10 suspects, are conducting medical examinations, and are investigating further; officials state the survivor’s condition is stable and a manhunt is allegedly ongoing for others possibly involved.

Survivor’s Ordeal and Police Response

The incident allegedly unfolded after the woman and her male friend visited the secluded beach to celebrate the Raja festival. The group of men allegedly took photographs of the couple, threatened to leak them online, and demanded money before physically assaulting the man and dragging the woman away.

Three men allegedly took turns raping her while others allegedly restrained her friend, with the ordeal reportedly lasting over two hours. The survivors allegedly reached Gopalpur police station around 11 pm to file a complaint.

This incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about safety for women and tourists at popular beaches in Odisha. The accused, all adults from the Hinjilcut area, are mostly unemployed, and their criminal records are allegedly being verified. Police have intensified investigations and arrested several suspects, with special teams allegedly intercepting those attempting to flee.

The case has been registered under Section 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to gang rape. The local administration and police are under pressure to ensure swift justice and restore public confidence.
