The Bihar Assembly elections held in November 2025 resulted in a landslide victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which won 202 out of 243 seats.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed that the election was “surprising” and “not fair from the very beginning,” while acknowledging the support from millions of voters for the opposition Mahagathbandhan. Rahul Gandhi asserted that the fight for safeguarding democracy and the Constitution will continue.
On the other hand, NDA leaders attributed their resounding victory to effective governance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s popularity. The election underscored a deep divide in political narratives around fairness and representation.

Rahul Gandhi’s Perspective and Official Statements
Rahul Gandhi described the Bihar election results as a setback but stressed that the Congress party and the INDIA alliance will rigorously analyse the outcome and strengthen their strategies. He thanked the millions of people who voted for the Mahagathbandhan despite facing an allegedly unfair election environment.
Gandhi accused misuse of constitutional institutions and urged vigilance to protect the democratic process. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed concerns about the undermining of democracy due to institutional misuses.
BJP leaders, in contrast, credited the victory to a unified and stable government and dismissed allegations of unfairness as political rhetoric.

Election Outcome and Political Context
The election results marked a crushing defeat for the opposition alliance, with the Congress securing only 6 seats and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 25 seats, while NDA’s component parties – BJP (89 seats) and JD(U) (85 seats) – dominated the assembly.
The alliance also included the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and other partners, securing a cohesive seat-sharing formula that prevented friction and maximized electoral appeal. The poll highlighted an expanded caste coalition beyond traditional alignments, with strong support from women voters and economically backward communities.
The “double-engine government” narrative under Modi and Nitish Kumar resonated with broad segments, supplementing the NDA’s welfare schemes and development projects. Nitish Kumar is poised for a record tenth term as Bihar’s Chief Minister, cementing his image as a stable and trusted leader.
The Bihar Assembly Election 2025 recorded a historic voter turnout of 66.91%, the highest since 1951. Female participation was notably higher than male, with 71.6% of women voters casting ballots compared to 62.8% of men.
This marks a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape, highlighting the expanded role of women and economically backward classes in shaping electoral outcomes. The Election Commission’s smooth management and increased voter enthusiasm were also key contributors to this record turnout, reflecting a more engaged and participatory democracy in the state.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The Logical Indian recognises the foundational importance of elections conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for democratic principles. While the right to question electoral integrity must be preserved, such claims should be substantiated with credible evidence to avoid undermining public trust.
The Bihar polls reflect a decisive choice by voters, affirming the need for all political entities to engage in constructive dialogue and accountability. Emphasising empathy, inclusiveness, and peaceful discourse can strengthen democracy and societal harmony.
This election invites reflection on how political stakeholders across India can collaboratively enhance transparency, build public confidence, and ensure elections remain a true expression of the people’s will.
