‘No More Attacks…’: Trump Pauses Israel’s South Pars Strikes, Warns Iran Over Gulf Energy Attacks

U.S. President Trump orders a temporary halt on Israeli energy strikes after Tehran’s retaliation hits Qatar, warning of drastic action to protect Gulf security.

Following a significant Israeli military strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field on March 18, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump has signalled a strategic pause on further energy-sector strikes. While Israel targeted the field to cripple Tehran’s economic core, Iran retaliated by striking Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG facilities, which it shares the reservoir with.

Trump has now warned that while “no more attacks will be made by Israel” on South Pars for now, the U.S. will “massively blow up” the entire field if Iran continues to target “innocent” Qatar or further disrupts the Strait of Hormuz.

A Strategic Strike And A Call For Calm

The South Pars gas field, the world’s largest, represents the backbone of Iran’s economy, supplying 70% of its domestic gas. While Israel’s strike on the Asaluyeh hub aimed to shift the conflict into a war of economic attrition, it sparked immediate regional blowback.

President Trump took to Truth Social to distance the U.S. from the specific timing, stating, “The U.S. knew nothing of the attack,” yet he issued a severe ultimatum following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Qatar. “If Qatar’s LNG facilities are attacked again, the United States… will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen,” Trump declared.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned of “uncontrollable consequences,” as the IRGC threatened that Gulf oil industries would be “completely destroyed” if strikes continue.

Context Of The Escalation

This escalation marks a shift from military skirmishes to “energy warfare.” The South Pars field is a shared asset between Iran and Qatar (where it is known as the North Field), making any strike there a global economic hazard. The International Energy Agency has already released over 400 million barrels of strategic reserves as Brent crude prices surged past $110 per barrel.

This follows a period of “maximum pressure” since Trump’s return to office in 2025, during which the U.S. has struck over 7,000 targets in Iran. The current tension is exacerbated by the paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway where 20% of the world’s LNG flows, leading Trump to demand that allies like the U.K. and Japan deploy warships to secure their own energy interests

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we believe that while nations have the right to security, the path to lasting peace is never paved with the destruction of essential resources that millions of innocent civilians rely on. The targeting of energy infrastructure assets that underpin electricity for homes and hospitals not only threatens the environment but risks pushing vulnerable populations across the globe into deeper poverty through record-high inflation.

We welcome the signal for a pause in hostilities and urge all stakeholders to choose the table of dialogue over the theatre of war. True strength lies in the empathy required to break the cycle of violence and the wisdom to seek coexistence in a fractured world
