NIGERIA: In one of the most dreadful mass-killings the world has ever seen, Boko Haram militants opened fire on northern Nigerian villages, leaving bodies scattered everywhere. As many as 2,000 people are feared dead. The attack looks as if it could be Boko Haram’s deadliest act, Amnesty International said in a statement. Islamist militants sprayed bullets indiscriminately as they stormed in last weekend in trucks and armored vehicles.
“Dead bodies litter the bushes and it is still not safe to go and pick them (up) for burial, some people who hid in their homes were burned alive.”said Musa Bukar, the chairman of the local government.
As a consequence of the raid that lasted for days, over 30,000 natives were displaced from their homes to safer places. Abuja – Nigeria’s military has called for support in tackling Boko Haram after a major attack on a key northeast town that is feared could be the worst in the bloody six-year insurgency.
The Logical Indian out rightly condemns such barbaric and heinous acts of terrorism, committed merely in the name of enforcing religion. Killing innocent people and destroying their dwellings to prove one’s point is a cowardly act. Our hearts and prayers go out to the kith and kin of the sufferers.
