Safer Travel For Women In Delhi Metro, Thanks To The All-Women CISF Combat Squad

A welcome boost for women’s safety

Women security will receive a new boost. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will deploy a new all-women combat group for Delhi Metro. The decision has been taken after multiple cases of molestation were registered at Metro police stations. The CISF made its announcement on International Yoga Day. As per Times of India reports, the all-women combat group has been specially trained to fight in narrow enclosures, like Metro trains, against multiple opponents using a combination of “Pekiti-Tirsia Kali”, a Filipino martial art.

The women demonstrated their skills in Connaught Place on Tuesday. The demonstration was attended by senior officers of CISF and other paramilitary forces. DIG CISF (DMRC) Raghubir Lal said that such a group was needed to win the confidence of women commuters and ensure safe travel for them. This group has especially been trained to handle miscreants bare-handed.

The group will also impart education of combat to women so that they can defend themselves. Delhi alone faces an average of 6 rapes and 15 molestations every day, one of the highest in the world. It is a high time other states also talk to the central government and avail resources at their disposal to improve women’s safety.
