In another case of gruesome assault and violence, a young woman was set ablaze by her stalker in Warangal district of Telangana. The incident took place on Wednesday, February 27 after the woman reportedly rejected his marriage proposal. What had happened?

According to The News Minute, the incident took place at around 9 am when the victim, Ravali was on her way to her college. The accused has been identified as one Anwesh, her classmate. The two had been in a relationship for some time now, however, the police informed that Anwesh intercepted her at Nayeem Nagar and demanded marriage. Hanamkonda ACP Chandraiah said that as Ravali declined the proposal, the accused, who was carrying petrol in his bag, poured it on her and set her on fire. Even though there were bystanders around her, they couldn’t help her until she fell on the ground.

While the accused escaped from the spot right after the incident, the police were quick to catch him. Reportedly, he has been arrested under various sections like sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 354 D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code. The victim was rushed to MGM hospital in Warangal first but was later shifted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad. While her condition was critical at the time, the police did manage to record her statement as she was able to speak.

Reportedly, both of them were students of Vagdevi College in Warangal and were classmates. Additionally, the accused had been harassing the victim and stalking her for months asking him to marry her. Ravali’s condition is critical said her doctors at Yashoda Hospital and also said that she has sustained a 70% burns after the incident.

Despite best efforts for the last 26+ hours, she seems to be deteriorating and requires medicines to maintain blood pressure and is in need of high ventilatory support to maintain oxygen saturation. Her prognosis at present is very grave,” the hospital said in a statement. Reportedly, this was the second such incident in February which comes just weeks after a 17-year-old girl was brutally stabbed by her alleged stalker hear her home in Hyderabad.
