Woman Paraded Naked

According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, the number of crimes against women has declined over a period of one year from 2014 to 2015. But many humiliating, prejudiced practices still exist, and it seems like they will not abate any time soon.

Another horrific incident from Meghlakhali village of Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh has come to light after the video-clippings of a woman being paraded naked filmed by some villagers went viral.

The victim who was a mother of two children was married to a villager in Meghlakhali.

Few months back, she fell in love with another man named Bahadur Madhai(22). The woman had gone to visit her relatives in Dhabhaipada village, and from there she eloped with her lover. When the relatives were not able to find her, they lodged a complaint at Deendayal Nagar Police Station. The relatives managed to locate them at Maudipada village and forcibly brought the couple to Meghlakhali village.

The woman was stripped naked by her own husband and relatives. She was forced to parade in the entire village. Many of the villagers filmed the act and circulated it on whatsapp.

The local police then swung into action and booked all the accused on charges of sexual harassment, obscenity and criminal conspiracy. They have arrested five persons for assaulting and forcibly persuading the victim to parade naked. Incidents like these are not new.

Infact, Madhya Pradesh has  the second highest number of sexual offenses cases against women in the country after Maharashtra. So far, Madhya Pradesh has recorded 12,887 cases. A 2016 report by the state home department has revealed that 31 women were paraded naked in MP between 2013 and 2015.
