A 24-year old woman succumbed to injuries after a chunk of concrete fell on her head at Ameerpet metro station, Hyderabad on September 22, Sunday. This incident becomes subject of concern over the safety of passengers and bystanders at the metro stations.

The woman identified as Mounika, a homemaker from Kukatpally, Hyderabad, took shelter in the pedestrian zone as heavy rains were pouring in. She is said to have gotten down at the station and was waiting for the rain to stop when a concrete block fell on her and caused severe head injuries.

A huge crowd gathered around her and called the police for help. However, Mounika died on her way to the hospital.

Speaking to The News Minute, Sector Sub Inspector CH Naresh said, “The woman passenger was taking cover under Ameerpet metro station. She died as the sharp concrete block fell on her head.”

“We have identified the woman, her relatives had been informed and arrived at the spot,” He further added.

Meanwhile, the authorities dispersed civil police and traffic police at the Amarpet metro station to look into the situation and safety of the passengers.

The Logical Indian Take

In a classic case of civic apathy, yet another life was lost. The incident is a sharp reminder of the death of R. Subasri in Chennai on September 13, who lost her life after a banner fell on her.

Incidents such as these reflect poorly on the civil administration and the value that the government attaches to life in India. Nothing can bring Mounika or Subasri back to their grieving families, but what we can do is put a full stop to this menace. The Logical Indian asks, how long till we entertain this indifference?
