Video: Law Maker Turns Law Breaker, Congress MLA Caught On Tape Offering Liquor To Media

A Sting video has been recently released that shows a Congress MLA from Bihar offering alcohol to his guests, in spite of the complete ban on liquor imposed in the state from April 5. This is a huge embarrassment for the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar government as Congress is an ally of the government in the state. After the release of the video the Congress issued a show cause notice on Tuesday to its Narkatiaganj MLA, Vinay Verma, who was allegedly videotaped in a sting operation by a private channel.

Mr Verma in the video is heard saying, “I have full stock, which is constantly replenished… I will offer you liquor. If you want to drink, I can offer drinks at my house. What we already have, how can we throw it away? We have to use it.” But according to the amended Bihar Excise Act, sale, consumption and even offering liquor to anyone is considered an offence, punishable by imprisonment from 10 years to life and a fine ranging between Rs 1 lakh and 10 lakh. Though the government ordered a raid of Verma’s residence, the raiding party did not find any trace of alcohol at his house. During the imposition of the liquor ban, every MLAs from Bihar had pledged in the assembly that they will not consume alcohol. But such a revelation is a mockery to the pledge.

The Logical Indian appeals to the government of Bihar to set an example by punishing the congress MLA and thereby sending out a message that nobody is above the law.
