All four accused in the Telangana veterinarian’s gang rape and murder case were killed in an encounter at 3:30 am on Friday, Cyberabad police said.

According to the police, all the four accused were shot dead on National Highway (NH-44) near Hyderabad – the same highway where the charred body of the vet was found.

The officials said that the culprits were taken to the crime scene for recreation of the incident when they tried to escape. According to the police, one of the four accused had gestured to the other three to flee after attacking the cops after which cops had to open fire, reported, The Indian Express.

The four were later taken to the hospital but were declared dead. According to the report, Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said, “Will the police just watch if the accused attack them?”

The police also said that the accused were taken at night for recreating the incident to avoid any public confrontation.

The four accused were – Mohammed (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20). They were arrested on November 29 for allegedly raping and killing the woman by choking her and later burning her body.

The four were under judicial custody and lodged in high-security cells in Cherlapally Central Prison. The state government had issued an order, to set up a special court (fast track) for a speedy trial in the case. The victim’s father expressed his gratitude towards the cops and the state government. He said his daughter must be at peace now.

What Happened On November 28?

According to the police, the initial investigation said that the four accused punctured the rear wheel of the vet’s scooter after she parked her vehicle near the  Tondupally toll plaza.

After she returned, the perpetrators offered help and then dragged her into bushes near the toll plaza and gang raped her. After smothering her to death the four took the body to an under-construction bridge in Chattapally, a few kilometres away, where they set it on fire. The incident had triggered a massive outrage with protest continuing across the country.
