In a shocking display of public apathy, a married woman was reportedly molested and later beaten up by local thugs in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district while people watched on. The goons assaulted even her husband. And all these happened in broad daylight in a marketplace where bystanders watched. Some of them even filmed the incident without any protests.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. It shows a woman caught in a brawl with a group of men, while another man approaches with a large stick and beats her ruthlessly.
According to reports, the woman, Vandana Tiwari, was out for a stroll in the busy market with her husband Ashwin Tiwari, and daughter. She had asked the men at the market for directions when they attempted to grope her and remove her dupatta. She tried to resist, but she and her husband got beaten up while their daughter witnessed the incident. No one from the crowd intervened.
In the video, it can be seen that she was hit on the head, after which she started bleeding profusely.
The main culprit was identified as Kishani-resident Anand Yadav who was arrested on Wednesday morning based on the video and eyewitness account. A case has been registered against him and two unknown miscreants.
Vandana and Arvind have registered a complaint with the local Kisni police station. She has threatened to shoot herself if the culprits were not arrested soon.
The Mainpuri area is around 20 km away from Saifai, the hometown of the ruling Akhilesh Yadav family.
