In an incident that highlights the poor state of education in Uttar Pradesh, an English teacher at a government school in Unnao district failed to read even a few lines from a textbook during a surprise inspection.
A video of the incident has gone viral, wherein the district magistrate of Unnao district can be seen asking a teacher to read out some lines in English.
While the teacher struggles to read, a visibly angry Devendra Kumar Pandey, district magistrate says: “She should be suspended immediately. She is an English teacher and she can’t even read English properly.”
The teacher tried to say something in her defence, to which Pandey replied: “So what? You’re BA pass, aren’t you? I did not even ask you to translate, all I asked that you read a few lines in English from the textbook…and you couldn’t do that.”

On Friday, November 29, Pandey visited the school, located in the Sikandarpur Sarausi area of Unnao district, to conduct a surprise check. He first asked the students to read a few lines from their textbook. When they fumbled, he asked the teacher to read out, who also failed to utter straight sentences in English.
Following this incident, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) was directed to suspend her.
BSA Pradeep Kumar Pandey said that further action will be taken after the report is submitted by the district magistrate.
