Tamil Nadu: 63-Yr-Old Woman Dies After Policeman Drags Her Out Of Running Two-Wheeler

A woman in Tamil Nadu died after a police constable allegedly dragged her out of a running two-wheeler.

Ayyammal, 63, was sitting on the pillion seat of the two-wheeler which, Senthil Kumar, her son, was riding. The duo was travelling in Villupuram district when Santhosh Kumar, a police constable, signalled at Senthil asking him to stop the bike. Senthil, not paying heed to the constable, tried to ride past him instead of stopping. Attempting to stop the vehicle, Santhosh pulled Ayyammal by her hand. She fell off the bike and died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Relatives of the victim accused police of using undue force on the duo. The police have claimed that the man was inebriated while he was driving.

“Constable Santhosh, who was part of the team, tried to stop the vehicle, but his hand touched Ayyammal accidentally, pushing her off the vehicle,” The Times Of India quoted a police officer as saying.

Following the incident, the five policemen who were present at the spot were suspended by Villupuram SP S Jayakumar on Monday, November 11. The suspended policemen include training Sub Inspector Velmurugan, Special Sub Inspector Mani, Constables Santhosh Kumar, Ilaiyaraja and Selvam.

The News Minute reported that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the suspended men.
