Telangana: Govt To Remove Parking Fee In Malls And Multiplexes For First 30 Minutes

In a welcome move and a major relief to the public, the Telangana government on Tuesday issued orders to regulate parking fees in commercial establishments in the Hyderabad city and other rural areas. The order was issued by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department and asked to remove parking fee in malls and multiplexes for the first 30 minutes. Most of the commercial establishments in Hyderabad have been collecting huge parking fee from vehicle owners irrespective of the parking duration.

Based on complaints on high parking fee made to MAUD Minister KT Rama Rao, parking fee in malls and multiplexes rationalised for all urban areas including Hyderabad with effect from April 1. No parking fee for the first half hour and subsequently, free parking upon producing purchase bills from the mall,” Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal (MAUD) Secretary Arvind Kumar tweeted.

The order

The new order is a relief for many who have been complaining about the huge parking fee charged by multiplexes and malls. If the vehicle owner produces the bill of purchase, the no parking fee can be extended to one hour. If a person who has parked more than an hour produce a bill or movie ticket to an amount which is more than the parking fee, that person need not pay the fee, as per the order. The new law will be in effect from April 1.

The Background

Several citizens have filed complaints regarding the huge fee charged by the commercial establishments in Hyderabad. An FIR was registered last year against Inorbit Mall after a man complained that he was forced to pay Rs 30 for using the parking space for just 10 minutes.
