Carnatic singer T M Krishna, who won Roman Magsaysay award winner for “ensuring social inclusiveness in culture”, whose show which was scheduled to be part of the “Dance and Music in the Park” concert in Nehru Park on November 17-18 was cancelled by AAI after it was trolled for hosting the event. AAI’s chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said they are postponing the event due to “urgent circumstances”.

T M Krishna & right wing

The Carnatic vocalist is known for taking 600-year-old Carnatic musical tradition forward and breaking the caste barrier. He has been known for his outspoken views against the current government and has been called “anti-national” & “urban naxal”. In August, he was in crosshairs with the right wing after they tried communalising Carnatic music saying it must pertain to Hinduism only. T M Krishna in response said that he will be regularly releasing music on Jesus and Allah.

“The troll army has the underlying patronage of people in power. I have been trolled for a long time for my social position, my perspectives on politics in India and my disagreements with the BJP regime… I believe in every art form… Allah, Jesus and Ram make no difference… It is a multi-lingual and multi-religious country,” Mr Krishna said.
