Amidst the roaring protest against the culprits of Kathua and Unnao rape cases, another case of rape and murder was reported in Surat where an 11-year-old girl was killed after allegedly being tortured for 8 days. The body of the girl was found by Surat police. The post-mortem report says the body had 86 injury marks including some on her private parts. Surat city police commissioner Satish Sharma informed during a press conference on Sunday that the police found the body from a cricket ground in Bhestan area in Surat city on April 6, after being informed by some passerby. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified culprits.
The postmortem report revealed that the girl was tortured and raped for at least 8 days. The report said that she had been strangulated. “Going by the nature of injuries, they seem to have been caused over a period ranging from one week to a day prior to the recovery of the body, suggesting that the girl, who is between nine to 11 years of age, might have been held captive, tortured and possibly raped,” Ganesh Govekar, a doctor at the City Civil Hospital where the autopsy was conducted told PTI.
The police have not yet confirmed the identity of the girl since no family members have reported claiming the girl’s body. Police are yet to identify the murderers too.
“Police has not got the exact information of the 11-year-old rape victim’s family. We got posters printed and now suspect that she was from Odisha. We contacted Odisha DGP, checked photos of more than 8,000 missing children,” said Gujarat Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja while speaking to the reporters.
The police have also announced a reward of 20,000 for the people who help to identify the girl’s parents or the culprits.

The Logical Indian Take
After Kathua and rape in Rohtas, Bihar, this is another chilling rape of a minor that has come to light. In this case, the culprit has not been identified and police are trying to identify 11-yr-old rape victim. We as a society have to take responsibilities of everyday rapes that are happening and to see that rape culture is not being perpetuated and also to ensure justice for the victim.
