Sunni Board To Build Mosque, Hospital, Library And Research Centre On Ayodhya's 5-Acre Land

Six members of the board took the decision unanimously in a meeting chaired by Zufar Ahmed Faruqi.

The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board on February 24 decided to accept the 5-acre land allocated by the state government in Ayodhya. They will set up a trust to build a mosque, two centres to showcase Indo-Islamic culture, a charitable hospital and a public library on the site.

Six members of the board took the decision unanimously in a meeting chaired by Zufar Ahmed Faruqi. The two members who had earlier disagreed to the land offered skipped Monday's meeting.

Faruqi in a statement said: "The Government of Uttar Pradesh, in compliance of the order dated November 9, 2019 passed by Supreme Court in a Civil Appeal of 2010 and other connected matters, has allotted 5 acres land to the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board. The board in its meeting held today has decided that it is accepting the aforesaid land."

Faruqi said that the name and size of the mosque are yet to be decided. The name will be announced after a trust for construction of the mosque is constituted.

He mentioned that trust will raise money through its own resources and the Board will not provide any funds to the trust for the mosque.

On the two members who skipped the meeting, Faruqi said that Imran Mahmood has not attended any meeting since 2010 and the other member who was not present at the meeting was Abdul Razzaque Khan.

Abdul Razzaque Khan later told the media that he does not agree on the board's decision to accept the 5-acre land. However, he said that he would have taken part in the meeting if he had time.

He alleged, "All those in the Board are under pressure, as the government has things against them which can be used. This is why they agree to whatever the government wants them to."

The Supreme Court, last year in its landmark verdict on the Ayodhya verdict ordered to build a temple at the disputed land and gave a separate 5 acre of land to the Sunni Waqf Board to build a mosque.

The land was allotted at Dhannipur village of Raunahi block which is 30 km from Ayodhya.
