Hyderabad: 22-Yr-Old Set On Fire In Full Public View By Stalker For Refusing Proposal, Dies

A woman was set on fire by a man in the full view of the public in Hyderabad on Thursday. She died on Friday morning. The incident took place in Lalaguda in the evening when the 22-year-old woman, identified as Sandhya Rani, was returning home from work.

What led to the incident?

Sandhya was working in a commercial establishment as a receptionist. Police said that according to eyewitnesses, the girl was on her way home from her office when the accused approached her on a bike.

What seemed like a normal conversation, took a violent turn after 10 mins. The accused poured petrol on her and set her on fire. The eyewitnesses say that the incident happened so fast that it was impossible for them to catch the boy.

Sandhya sustained 80% burns and was rushed to the Gandhi Hospital, where her condition was stated to be critical. She succumbed to death on Friday early morning. The girl’s brother lodged a complaint and the accused has been arrested. He reportedly set her on fire for refusing his advances.

She knew him

The accused has been identified as Karthik. He apparently worked with Sandhya at the same organisation but he left the job. He was forcing Sandhya to resign as well. A case of attempted murder has been registered against him.

The Logical Indian Take

The Logical Indian condemns the act of stalking. No means no. It is not an invitation to force someone into doing something. People need to understand consent as soon as possible.
