Asian Games Bronze Medalist Seema Punia To Donate Her Pocket Money To Kerala Flood Relief

With Kerala slowly coming out of the clutches of the horrific flood which claimed over 400 lives, any kind of help is crucial and welcome now. While it is the whole country who has supported with the southern state, another noble move has come up from a bronze medalist in the discus throw at Asian Games 2018, Seema Punia.

Reportedly, Seema Punia has decided to donate Rs 1 lakh plus her pocket money for the Jakarta trip which is around 700 USD or Rs 49,000 to Kerala flood victims.

According to New Indian Express, Punia won a bronze medal at Discus throw event on Day 12 of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. “I have decided to donate my pocket money and also one lakh more to Kerala flood victims. They have gone through a lot. I will go and try to serve those people,” Seema had told the reporters

However, she did not stop here. She has urged other athletes to do their part too. She said, “I also urge all Indian athletes to donate at least half of their allowance to help the victims. Later, she also said that after she comes back from Kerala, she will have to undergo a surgery of her left foot as she was suffering from a bone spur, as reported by News Nation.

When asked about her surgery after the event, she said, “This problem had surfaced at CWG, but it was not bad. However, now it will need surgery. Today also I was in pain, but it was not the reason for my performance.”

At day 12 of Asian Games 2018, Seema did her season’s best throw of 61.03m only for a third place as China secured the position 1-2 in the event and so the 35-year old athlete could not defend her Gold medal which she won at Asian Games 2014, Times Now reported.
