2 Students Forbidden To Take Exam After Failing To Pay School Fees; Forced To Stand Under Sun

In Indian society teachers(Guru) are compared with God, but what if your teacher (your guru) starts to hinder your study of a whole year over a paycheck. That is exactly what has happened in a school in Aluva, Ernakulam district of Kerala. Two students of class ll were made to stand outside classroom while all other students appeared for an exam allegedly because their parents failed to pay school fees, reported The News Minute.

Stood under sun for 3 hours

Both the 7-year-old, who studied in Settlement School, were reportedly made to stand out of the classroom for three hours till 12 PM, when their parents failed to pay balance fee amount of Rs 990 including bus charge for the month of March.

Despite the fact of extreme hot climate and heat wave warning prevailing the state, the teachers didn’t provide any respite to the students. Moreover it has been reported that one of the child was suffering from nervous and eye problem.

School warned earlier

Sariga, one of the students mother after coming to know about the incident said that the school authority had earlier threatened her over the issue, but never believed that the school could take such an extreme step for real. After she got to know about the incident, she along with some panchayat representatives strode towards the school. However, by the time they reached the school, Kavita, the principal had left.

Complaints registered

The parent filed a compliant with Aluva West police. A case under Section 75 (punishment for cruelty to child) of Juvenile Justice Act against the school principal.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission also took suo-motu of the issue and filed a case against the school authorities and asked the District Collector and Deputy Director of Education to submit a report within three weeks.

The Logical Indian Take

Well, this is not the first event of this nature, similar incidents have happened in Ahmedabad and Mumbai few days back. Teachers are certainly there to guide students, however, punishing them harshly without the student’s fault is simply unacceptable.
