Appalling is an understatement

In a ghastly incident, a 30-year-old woman from Alwar, Rajasthan was allegedly gang-raped by her husband and his two brothers who also tattooed abuses on her hands and forehead after their demand for dowry was not met by the girl’s family, said the police. The victim’s family lodged a complaint on Sunday. According to police reports, the girl got married to a person called Jagannath in Reni village in January last year. Since her marriage, her husband and in-laws used to beat her up over the demand of dowry of Rs 51,000. Her husband and brother -in-law allegedly raped her and tattooed profanities on her forehead which her parents later tries to get removed.

Expressing shock over the incident, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi asked the National Commission for Women (NCW) to probe the matter. An FIR has been registered against the husband and in-laws under sections of 498-A (Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act), 376 (punishment for rape)and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of IPC and an investigation in the case has been initiated, said SHO Abdul Wahid of Mahila police station. However, no arrest has been made so far.

The Logical Indian is appalled at the crime perpetuated. We urge the police to arrest the guilty and ensure the victim is adequately supported and compensated. No amount of compensation could make up for the abuse the woman has faced.
