Pune: Pining Lover Puts Up 300 Banners To Apologise To Girlfriend; Leaves Police Upset

A 25-year old man installed 300 banners and hoardings in Pimpri-Chinchwad area near Pune, Maharashtra apparently to apologise to his girlfriend after a tiff. However, this act did upset the local police.

According to The Indian Express, the 25-year-old is identified as Nilesh Khedekar who is a local businessman. He placed these banners in Pimple Saudagar area of Pimpri Chinchwad. These 300 banners placed in areas which are especially prominent traffic intersections, reads, “(name of the girl), I am sorry” printed in bold black colour with a heart symbol on it.

This riled the local Wakad police and they reached out to the Pimpri Chinchwad civic body to initiate action as per rules dealing with illegal hoardings and defacement of public property.

The incident happened in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when over 300 hoardings were put up on the route which the girl was likely to take the next morning while coming from Mumbai to Pune,” the official said. The police officials said that the investigations have started in the case.

“We managed to zero in on his friend Vilas Shinde who had helped Khedekar get the flex hoardings printed. Through him, we traced Khedekar who is the brain behind this act,” the official said. The police officials further said that Khedekar wanted to apologise and make up with his girlfriend after an argument with her. That is why he came up with this “creative” idea.

The local Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation had been informed about the matter. Now it is up to the civic body to initiate further action against Khedekar, said the officials.

This lovelorn act shows how irresponsible people can be towards public property. It might look like an innocent act of a pining lover, but this causes distraction to cars and bikes on roads which might lead to accidents. Just as we criticise MPs and MLAs when they put up birthday and anniversary announcements on hoardings, we should also criticise such brazen acts. At a time when Bollywood has romanticised such extravagance, legally it can land anyone in trouble. This might also humiliate the girl and land her in trouble. The Logical Indian community would like the police to investigate the matter and also raise awareness about the legalities of Public Property Damage Act.
