Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, June 26, launched 'Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Abhiyan' (ANUPRA), a 125-day campaign to provide employment to migrant workers and others in the state who lost their jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic.
PM Modi launched the scheme through video conferencing with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a virtual event.

The Prime Minister also interacted with villagers from six districts of Uttar Pradesh at the virtual launch.

The scheme has been undertaken as part of the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan which was announced by PM Modi on June 20. Covering 116 districts in six states, the programme is aimed at generating employment in backward regions of the country.
The 'ANUPRA' seeks to promote local entrepreneurship and partnerships with industry associations to provide employment to the state's workers.
It is expected to benefit 1.25 crore workers and labourers across 31 districts in Uttar Pradesh. The districts that would be covered under this scheme are Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Unnao, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Ayodhya, Deoria, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Balrampur, Hardoi, Fatehpur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Banda, Shravasti, Jalaun, Sitapur and Kaushambi.
"I have full belief that like Uttar Pradesh, other states will also bring this type of schemes," said PM Modi.

Speaking at the event, the PM Modi also lauded the Yogi Adityanath-led government's efforts. He said that the initiatives taken by the Uttar Pradesh government during COVID-19 pandemic have managed to save 85,000 lives.
